MMG Rosebery Mine is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in the west coast of Tasmania, Australia.  It has been at the heart of the Rosebery community since 1936 and is one of Tasmania’s largest and oldest continuously operating, underground mines producing zinc, copper and lead concentrates, as well as gold doré.

It supports approximately 500 workers and their families, has a strong community focus and engages a wide range of local businesses from across Tasmania in its supply chain boosting the economy of the West Coast of Tasmania and beyond.

Superintendent Processing- Rosebery Mines, Tasmania

Reporting to The Manager- Surface Operations, This role will manage the safe operation of the Concentrator at Rosebery to deliver the annual production budget.  This includes management of key areas such as the ROM, Grinding and Flotation Circuits, Filter Plant, and Train loadout, as well as management of the operational budget and oversight of relevant capital projects. The Superintendent Processing also holds responsibility for the alignment of the 4 operational crews towards site operational goals and standards.

This role is offered on a permanent residential 5/2 - 4/3 roster. Candidates living within Tasmania that can DIDO will also be considered.

Competencies, qualifications and skills:

  • Tertiary education advantageous, particularly in the field of Metallurgy
  • Extensive processing experience in the mining industry preferably in base metals floatation and in a few different plants.
  • Excellent leadership capabilities including coaching, mentoring and managing a medium to large high-performance team
  • Should be a safety leader and promote a “safety first” Culture
  • Good knowledge of base metals floatation, understanding of isolation and de-energising fundamentals
  • Experience in managing budgets and capital projects

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Demonstrate and promote safe behaviour at all times, including leading improvements to compliance against the site's procedures and standards in SHEC.
  • Working closely with the Maintenance Planning and Delivery functions to ensure maintenance activities are planned and executed in as safe and efficient manner as possible, including planning major shutdown isolations and operational tasks.
  • Leading and promoting operational discipline within the Operations team, including holding personnel to account to business commitments
  • Implementing improvement strategies and operational plans as developed with the Metallurgy Team.
  • Delivery of the site production budget, and management of the Operations operating budget. 
  • Control owner for the Clearance to Work, Isolations and Permits Fatal Risks.
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the Operations team, particularly with respect to Fatal Risk and SHEC aspects of operation. 
  • Involvement with capital projects within the plant
  • Management of the ROM contract
  • Improvement projects to aid in Continuous Improvement activities.
