About MMG Rosebery
MMG Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia.
The Mine has been at the heart of the Rosebery community since 1936 and is one of Tasmania’s largest and oldest continuously operating, underground mines producing zinc, copper and lead concentrates, as well as gold ore.
It supports approximately 500 workers and their families, has a strong community focus and engages a wide range of local businesses from across Tasmania in its supply chain, boosting the economy of the west coast of Tasmania and beyond.
Rosebery offers exceptional outdoor experiences with fishing, canoeing, white water rafting, rock climbing and walking at your doorstep and the MMG office in Burnie, gives employees the flexibility to work from there when they are not required onsite.
Senior Project Geologist
Reporting to the Superintendent - Geology, this leadership role will contribute to the sustainability, growth and orebody knowledge of the Rosebery VHMS Deposit and prospects through the supervision of surface and underground drill program designs, rig scheduling, geological data collection, geological modelling and contractor management.
This role is responsible for onsite management of Project Legacy which forms a cornerstone of the Life Extension Project at the operation.
The 8/6 roster is suitable for family orientated residential life in Rosebery or present as a DIDO opportunity to one of Tasmania’s other cities or towns.
Competencies, qualifications, and skills:
- Committed to workplace safety and skilled in fostering safety cultures with extensive knowledge of drilling processes and contractor supervision.
- Proficient in 3D mining software (Leapfrog, Vulcan) and mineral systems (VHMS), with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Strong reporting and presentation skills, capable of coaching geologists and managing continuous improvement opportunities while effectively prioritizing tasks.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supervise the Project Geology Team to execute effective drilling programs within budget, driving target generation to discover and upgrade resources.
- Manage the design, scheduling, and execution of diamond drilling activities, including surface exploration and underground testing, while ensuring maximum value and high-quality data capture in the Geobank.
- Contribute to the delivery of 3D models for JORC compliant resource estimation and maintain collaboration with MTS, SHEC, and Melbourne teams.
- Mentor Graduate and Project Geologists on MMG procedures, oversee QAQC protocols, and liaise with laboratories on QAQC performance.
- Assist with field mapping, orebody knowledge, and tenement reporting, while ensuring consistent geological data capture and interpretation.
